Within hours of the video'due south appearance on TMZ.com, Rice's squad, the Baltimore Ravens, tweeted, "The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon."
The video shows Janay Palmer, now Rice's wife, being hit in the confront in the elevator. Palmer then lunges at the running back before he delivers a blow that knocks her out. When the elevator doors open up, Rice drags Palmer's body outside, leaving her face up downward on the floor, her legs still inside the elevator.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he and team officials had not seen the video before today, but after seeing it they speedily came to the decision that Rice had to be released.

Both Rice and Palmer were arrested afterwards the incident. Charges confronting Palmer were rapidly dropped. Rice, who was indicted by a 1000 jury, entered a pretrial diversionary program, fugitive jail time. He has apologized for the Feb. 15 incident.
Kyle Flood, the football coach at Rice'southward alma mater, Rutgers University, called Monday a "sad day" for the school.
